A dedicated community leader fighting for Kansas’ working families
Andrea Ramsey is a dedicated community leader and experienced businesswoman running to fight for Kansas’ working families whose voices aren’t heard in Washington. With more than 25 years of experience in business and law, she has what it takes to win this Republican-held House seat and to serve as a formidable advocate for expanding all Americans’ access to affordable quality health care. Andrea, a former executive for Fortune 500-company Quest Diagnostics, began volunteering at the Turner House Children’s Clinic, which provides medical care to underserved children in Wyandotte County, in 2009. She soon joined the board, and went on to serve as president and chair. Under Andrea’s leadership, Turner House doubled its number of annual patients and expanded its services to include behavioral health and dental care for the most vulnerable young members of her community. Andrea and her husband William, a retired United States Army Colonel, are the proud parents of two children now in college. They live in Leawood, where they volunteer as mentors for college-bound students at an area high school.
A champion for access to quality health care
When radical Republican Kansas Governor Sam Brownback’s cruel cuts to health care funding threatened the Turner House Children’s Clinic’s ability to serve vulnerable children, Andrea worked tirelessly to continue providing essential services working families depend on. Under her leadership, the clinic avoided closing and found alternative funding to continue its programs. “I had to fight to keep the doors of Turner House open,” she said, and she will never stop fighting for children and families who need it most. Andrea decided to make running for office a part of her activism when Congressman Kevin Yoder, the extreme Republican currently representing her district, put his extreme agenda ahead of Kansas families in voting to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Andrea isn’t afraid to take on the toughest challenges hardworking Kansans are facing, and when elected to Congress she will always put them first and be their champion.
An opportunity to flip a seat and give Kansans a new voice in Washington
Andrea is running in Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District, where Hillary Clinton edged out Donald Trump in 2016. The path to taking back the House runs through suburban districts just like this one. There are currently no Democrats in Kansas’ congressional delegation, leaving hardworking families without a voice in Washington. Andrea is running to make sure all Kansans have the champion they deserve fighting for them. “I will listen and be a strong voice so we can tackle the tough challenges of creating good jobs, making health care more affordable, and ensuring we have the best schools in the world,” she has said. “I won’t be afraid to stand up to President Trump when he acts against the values and interests of Kansas’ families.” Andrea was one of the thousands of women who approached EMILY's List to run for office through our "Run to Win" national recruitment and training program, and she quickly mounted a formidable campaign to hold Rep. Yoder accountable for his extreme record. Let’s show her the full support of our community and ensure that she has the resources she needs to win and fight for Kansas’ working families.
