A champion for Nevada working families
Jacky Rosen ran to represent Nevada’s Third Congressional District, a community she has called home for over 35 years. When she was growing up, she learned the importance of public service from her father, a veteran of the Korean War. Jacky was the first in her family to graduate from college, and she worked two jobs and took out student loans to help her achieve that goal. During that time, Jacky was a proud member of the local Culinary Workers Union — an experience that helped her become an advocate for working families. Jacky enjoyed a successful career as a computer programmer and software developer before becoming president of her synagogue, Congregation Ner Tamid, where she has built community and helped those in need. Under Jacky’s leadership, her congregation developed strong interfaith relationships with other communities in southern Nevada, engaged in important political discussions, and provided support to local individuals and families struggling to get by. Jacky will fight tirelessly for policies that increase economic opportunity for all Nevada women and families.
A dedicated community leader with a track record of success
As president of Ner Tamid, Jacky earned praise for putting ethics into action. She led the implementation of the largest solar energy project for a nonprofit in Henderson, Nevada — a project that will save the congregation nearly $2 million in energy costs over the next 25 years. She will fight for environmentally-sustainable energy policies that help grow our economy. Jacky understands that economic opportunity and economic security are social justice issues, and she will be a champion for Nevada women, families, and seniors. She increased her congregation’s enrollment in children’s educational programs, and she will fight to strengthen all of Nevada’s schools and to increase graduation rates. Under Jacky’s leadership, her congregation partnered with local agencies to improve social programs in the area. In Congress, she will bring people together to help all Nevadans have a fair shot.
A seat we helped flip
Jacky ran in a true battleground district that has been represented by Republican Joe Heck since 2011. When Heck ran for Senate and vacated the seat, Jacky’s strong campaign was the Democrats’ best shot Democrats had at winning it back in several years. Danny Tarkanian, Jacky’s GOP opponent, was an enthusiastic Donald Trump supporter who ran to advance a dangerous agenda that would hurt Nevada’s women and families — and his powerful GOP allies tried their hardest to stop Jacky. But Jacky had the full support of the EMILY’s List community in her high-stakes race, and WOMEN VOTE! pushed back on Republican attacks by sending mail pieces directly to voters communicating Tarkanian’s dangerous record on choice. All of us helped her flip this seat to give Nevada’s working families a fair shot.
