What kind of person is Campaign Corps looking for?
We're looking for recent college graduates who are passionate about Democratic politics and dedicated to electing progressive candidates. Campus or community leadership is a plus. And since campaigns are 24-7, you'd better have a strong work ethic. No political experience yet? No worries -- this program is all about giving you political experience.
When will I know if I'm accepted? And if I'm accepted, when will I go?
We'll notify you by late spring if you're accepted. Campaign school starts July 25; you'll be sent out to a campaign immediately after that, where you'll work through Election Day (always the first Tuesday in November).
How big are the classes?
Not big at all. To give you the best experience, Campaign Corps accepts only between 25 and 40 staffers each year. You'll have plenty of opportunity to get to know your colleagues and instructors.
How do I pay for all that training and job placement assistance?
You don't! Campaign Corps picks up the tab for training, pays for your travel to Washington before and after the campaign, and provides you with free job placement counseling. You will also receive a monthly stipend and free housing while you're on the campaign. Campaign Corps: cost - absolutely nothing; value - priceless.
What happens at Campaign School?
Think of it as extreme job training. It's a mixture of lectures and discussions, combined with a simulated campaign where teams compete against each other to win. Campaign School is hardcore-say goodbye to free time!
How much time will I have between Campaign School and heading off to the campaign?
If you are accepted by Campaign Corps, you'll be sent to your targeted campaign immediately after Campaign School, where you'll be paid to work side by side with candidates and other political professionals for the last three months of the campaign.
Do I get to choose which campaign I work with?
You will have the opportunity to learn about the campaigns we are supporting and give your preferences. Then Campaign Corps will assign you to a campaign based on your experience and performance at Campaign School and on the individual needs of the campaigns.
What kind of campaign will I be sent to?
You will be sent to a local, state or federal race for a progressive Democratic candidate, where you will have the most enriching experience, and play a critical role on the campaign.
What will I do on the campaign?
Campaign Corps staffers have held positions from field operative to fundraiser to campaign manager. Campaigns make those decisions based on individual experience and need.
How much will I get paid?
Staffers receive a stipend of $1,000 per month for the three months they are working on the campaigns and will have housing provided.
What happens after the campaign?
The weekend after Election Day, everyone reunites in Washington, DC for a retreat. Using a nationwide network of program alumni developed over the last 20 years, Campaign Corps helps participants develop a persuasive resume and find their next job, in progressive politics or elsewhere. Alumni have used their campaign experience to launch careers in politics, non-profits, business, and more.
