Who We Are What's New

In May 2003, EMILY's List launched Campaign Corps, formerly called Participation 2000. To recruit applicants, Campaign Corps staff visited 17 states and 50 college campuses. Offering six weekend-long mini-camps, Campaign Corps trained 500 young people in Washington, DC. Michigan, California, Texas, Illinois, Washington state and Florida. During 2003-2004, Campaign Corps received 934 applications, accepting 33 young people in 2003 and 40 in 2004. Campaign Corps graduates worked for progressive candidates and causes across the country, including six US Senate campaigns; eight US House campaigns; one gubernatorial campaign; five statewide campaigns, 15 state Senate campaigns; and 19 state House campaigns.

2004 Campaign Corps alum have settled in with new jobs around the country and in DC, working at interesting places like the Hotline!, DCCC, EMILY's List, the Close Up Foundation, SEIU, NDI and back on the campaign trail in Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and California.

Campaign Corps received 772 applications in 2005 and 2006, accepting 40 staffers in 2005 and 35 in 2006.  The staff worked on some of the most important campaigns of the 2006 cycle, helping Democrats up and down the ticket.  These staffers worked on state legislative races in New York, New Jersey and Virginia as well as Minnesota StudentVote! and several statewide and Congressional races

Campaign Corps is especially excited to welcome CC'04 alum Kellie Dupree as the new Campaign Corps Coordinator.  Kellie is a Virginia native who was sent to Lieutenant Governor Kathy Davis' campaign  in Indiana where she served as Deputy Campaign Coordinator.  She continued her work with downballot candidates as the EMILY's List Political Opportunity Program Assistant for the East; working with candidates up and down the ticket in 17 states.  We're thrilled to have Kellie working with Campaign Corps again.

In 2007 Campaign Corps held one mini-camp in Austin, TX and plans to hold at least one more in the fall.  35 staffers will be traveling to DC on July 28th to being their journey in becoming the next generation of progressive activists.  Campaign School runs from July 28th - August 4th, then staffers will be on the ground from August 5th through Election Day.  These graduates will be placed on a variety of races, including a US Senate campaign, a gubernatorial campaign, and state legislative races in New Jersey and Virginia.
