Campaign mobilizes supporters and members to say no to the GOP’s anti-woman agenda
WASHINGTON D.C. -- Today, EMILY's List and MoveOn.org Political Action are teaming up to launch Stop The War On Women -- a campaign to mobilize women and men nationwide to say no to the Republicans' radical agenda.
"They promised to focus on jobs," said EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock. "Instead, Republican leaders pulled a bait and switch on the American people. And they passed a budget so backwards, so punishing, and so unacceptable to women and families that we're fighting back."
"The Republicans' agenda is nothing short of a war on women," said Kat Barr, Campaign Director at MoveOn. "Their attempt to limit women's health options in the budget is not about saving money, it is about advancing an ideological agenda. It must be stopped. We are proud to be joining with EMILY's List on this vital campaign."
Republicans have passed a budget that would recklessly deny American women and their families access to vital health care facilities and services, such as cancer screenings, maternity care, and childhood services. Democratic women in the Senate stood up and said no, but Republicans are still committed to their extreme agenda.
www.StopTheWarOnWomen.com will be a one-stop shop for women and men to fight back. Supporters of women's rights will be able to add their voice to the chorus of Americans telling Congress no: No to taking away the rights and freedoms of American women. No to threatening the health of millions of women and their families. No to sneak attacks on women's right to choose.
The campaign will include a petition drive, grassroots advocacy and paid media component as well as a dynamic website that will be updated as the legislative calendar progresses. The campaign will also feature voices of American women and men talking about the real-world impacts of the Republicans' extreme agenda. Supporters of StopTheWarOnWomen.com will be alerted when Republicans work to take away even more vital services for women and their families. And they'll have the tools to fight back.
In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 600,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 84 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 25 year history.
MoveOn.org Political Action is a political action committee powered by 5 million progressive Americans. We believe in the power of small donors and grassroots action to elect progressive leaders to office and to advance a progressive agenda. We do not accept any donations over $5,000, and the average donation to MoveOn.org Political Action is under $100.
