EMILY’s List Applauds Expanded Speakers List at Women’s Convention

October 24, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock released the following statement:

"We are happy to have been able to partner with the organizers of the Women's Convention to ensure the addition of powerful, progressive women speakers to inspire those coming together in Detroit. From elected officials to grassroots activists to the thousands of women stepping up and running for office, women are leading the resistance, and we at EMILY's List are thrilled to hear that Senators Gillibrand, Klobuchar, and Stabenow – and Michigan Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer – will speak in Detroit later this week."

"Voices of pro-choice Democratic women leaders are needed now more than ever, as women across the country face a president and a Republican Party hell-bent on rolling back the clock on our rights. I could not be prouder to join these inspirational women on stage in Detroit next weekend – and the thousands of women participating in the convention who are fighting day-in and day-out for women and our shared progressive values."

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
