EMILY’s List Endorses 7 Candidates for Virginia House of Delegates

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed seven candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates: Cheryl Turpin (HD-85), Jennifer Carroll Foy (HD-02), Danica Roem (HD-13), Hala Ayala (HD-51), Wendy Gooditis (HD-10), Kelly Fowler (HD-21) and Delegate Kathleen Murphy (HD-34).

“EMILY’s List is thrilled to endorse seven remarkable pro-choice Democratic women for the Virginia House of Delegates,” said Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List. “Now, more than ever, we need leaders like Delegate Kathleen Murphy, Danica Roem, Hala Ayala, Kelly Fowler, Jennifer Carroll Foy, Wendy Gooditis, and Cheryl Turpin in office to fight back against Republicans in the House of Delegates who have been emboldened by Donald Trump to push dangerous policies that hurt Virginia families. This powerful, diverse group of women will not only fight for good jobs, strong schools, and other progressive values – they will also bring much-needed change to Richmond. Virginia’s state motto is sic semper tyrannis – “thus always to tyrants.” Women are leading the resistance across the country, and by running for office and fighting on the front lines for the people of their state, these seven women show that they are no exception.”

EMILY’s List has also endorsed Susan Platt for lieutenant governor of Virginia.

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have trained over 9,000 women to run and helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color – including every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic congresswoman currently serving.
