WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Kim Schrier for Congress in Washington’s 8th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“As a pediatrician and a community leader, Kim Schrier has dedicated her career to improving people’s lives–and now she wants to continue that work in Congress. At a time when congressional Republicans continue to sabotage health care for millions of families, Kim’s perspective as a doctor and a patient with a pre-existing condition is needed in Washington now more than ever.”

“Washington State families deserve Kim Schrier’s real-world experience and critical perspective to protect their health care, expand economic opportunity and hold the line against Donald Trump – and EMILYs List is proud to stand by her side.”

Kim is a pediatrician running for the highly contested open seat currently held by Republican Congressman Dave Reichert, who opted not to seek re-election less than a month after Kim launched her strong campaign to hold him accountable for voting to repeal the Affordable Care Act. In place of Reichert, Republicans have put up a career politician with an anti-woman, anti-choice voting record who has been rejected by Washington State voters three times. Democrats’ path to taking back the House runs straight through this district – one of 23 Republican-held districts where Hillary Clinton outperformed Donald Trump in 2016. This is a must-win race, and Kim is the only candidate who has what it takes to flip this seat from red to blue.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
