EMILY’s List Endorses Susan Bysiewicz

Moves from "On the List" to A Full Recommendation

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY's List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, today announced it was moving Susan Bysiewicz, candidate for Senate in Connecticut, from "On the List" to fully recommended.

"On the List" was created because of the dramatic growth in the EMILY's List community -- now over 900,000 members -- who are getting their information earlier, quicker and on the web. These supporters are ready to take action now and “On the List” makes sure candidates have early access to them. Today, Bysiewicz moves from "On the List" to a full recommendation.

"In an election year where control of the Senate is up for grabs, women are leading the way towards victory for Democrats. Susan Bysiewicz has the tenacity and strength to be a great Senator for Connecticut," said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY's List. "Throughout her career she's been a champion for women in government and business. Now she's focused on holding Wall Street accountable on behalf of middle class families more firmly that anyone in the race. 2012 is an historic year for Democratic women running for Senate and EMILY's List is thrilled to have another strong woman to support."

Raised on a small farm in Connecticut, Susan Bysiewicz first ran for state Representative in 1992 and in 1998 she was elected Secretary of State. During her twelve years in office she worked for government efficiency, streamlined the voting system to prevent voter fraud, and pushed to protect victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse by keeping their addresses private. She currently lives in Middletown with her husband and their three kids.

In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List raised more than $38.5 million to support its mission of recruiting and supporting women candidates, helping them build strong campaigns, and mobilizing women voters to turn out and vote. With a community of more than 900,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 86 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 16 to the U.S. Senate, nine governors, and hundreds of women to the state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY's List had the largest number of members and donors in our 25 year history.
