EMILY’s List Endorses Wendy Greuel for Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource in politics, endorsed Wendy Greuel in her campaign to represent California’s 33rd District in Congress.

“Wendy Greuel has demonstrated outstanding leadership as a public servant fighting for education, small businesses, and government accountability for California families,” said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY’s List. “The EMILY’s List community – now more than three million members strong – is excited to support Wendy’s campaign to be a strong voice for the women and families of California’s 33rd congressional district.”

Wendy Greuel is a lifelong Angeleno. She began her career in public service working for former Mayor Tom Bradley, and teamed up with him to strengthen public education in Los Angeles. After serving as a deputy to Mayor Bradley, Wendy went on to work as a senior advisor for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, where she assisted victims of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. From 1997 until 2002, Greuel helped build Dreamworks, a new studio at the time, into the household name it is today. In 2002, she was elected to serve on the Los Angeles City Council, where she championed an historic business tax reform which reduced taxes for small businesses and returned nearly $100 million to local businesses. Wendy has championed the efficiency of basic city services, including attempting to fill every pothole in her council district. After six years on the city council Wendy was elected Controller for the City of Los Angeles, where she fights against waste, fraud, and abuse, and ensured greater government transparency. Wendy is committed to making Los Angeles a sustainable city by investing in public transportation, public schools, and building a strong economy. Wendy attended public school in Los Angeles, is a graduate of UCLA, and currently resides in Studio City with her husband and son.

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $350 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making it one of the most successful political action committees in the country. Throughout its 29 year history, the organization has recruited and trained over 8,000 women to run, worked to elect 102 pro-choice Democratic women to the House, 19 to the Senate, 10 governors, and over five hundred women to state and local office. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY’s List helped elect 97% of the Democratic women of color in Congress, including every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic woman currently serving. And during the 2011-2012 cycle, EMILY’s List had the largest number of members and donors in its history and raised a record-breaking $52 million dollars. With the help of this growing community — now more than three million members strong — EMILY’s List helped elect an historic number of candidates in 2012 including 19 new women to the House, six Senate incumbents, three new Senators, and 186 state and local officials.
