EMILY's List Endorses Diane Farrell for Connecticut's 4th Congressional District

Washington, DC -- EMILY's List, the largest financial resource for women running for elected office, today announced its support for two-term Westport First Selectwoman Diane Farrell in her run for the 4th Congressional District of Connecticut.

EMILY's List will recommend Farrell to its national network of members, opening the doors to tens of thousands of women and men eager to help elect Farrell to the U.S. Congress.

Diane Farrell has a strong record of service in Southwestern Connecticut. In Congress she will continue to work hard on behalf of Connecticut's Fourth District, fighting for quality education, solutions to the regions transportation issues, access to health care and Social Security benefits, and working to keep America safe.

"The enthusiastic support that is building around Diane Farrell's campaign demonstrates the readiness of people in this District for a leader who will represent their priorities. EMILY's List is proud to endorse Diane Farrell in her campaign to bring change to the Fourth District of Connecticut. First Selectwoman Farrell is an energizing choice for this District," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List.

As a two-term First Selectwoman in Westport, Farrell has already proven she can deliver real results and get things done on the issues that matter to voters in her district. Her candidacy for Congress has generated unprecedented excitement among Democrats who recognize Farrell's legacy of service in Connecticut. As frustration with the national political agenda grows, voters in this region are ready to have a Congressperson who is in touch with their concerns.

"I am honored to accept the endorsement of EMILY's List," First Selectwoman Farrell said. "The people of the Fourth District are concerned about the direction our country is headed and they are ready for a Congresswoman who represents their interests and their priorities. The support of EMILY's List members will help me to get my message out to the people of this region."

In its 19-year history, EMILY's List has helped elect seven women governors, 11 women to the United States Senate and 56 women to the U.S. House of Representatives and has over 90,000 members nationwide. In the 2002 elections, EMILY's List, which then had almost 73,000 members, contributed nearly $9.7 million to pro-choice Democratic women candidates; members contributed $23 million to fund EMILY's List operations and political program, including the nationwide WOMEN VOTE! project to mobilize women voters on behalf of Democrats.
