EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Judy Baker in Missouri's 9th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- EMILY’s List, one of the nation’s largest political action committees and financial resources for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of Judy Baker in Missouri’s ninth congressional district.
“Judy Baker’s fresh perspective, expertise and pragmatism are needed in order to help change Congress,” said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY’s List. “Her ability to make real improvement in people’s daily lives through a creative and collaborative approach makes her an ideal representative for Missouri’s ninth district.”
A longtime health care professional and managing partner of a health care consulting firm, Judy Baker is a strong advocate for education and health care access. Currently in her second term in the Missouri House of Representatives, Baker fought for legislation to improve children’s futures, as well as protect the interests of vulnerable seniors and those with disabilities. Baker understands the importance that access to health care plays in helping Missourians succeed, which is why she fought to reverse Medicaid cuts. This compassion for others inspired her to start the “American Dream” caucus to fight increasing poverty rates.
Judy Baker will be a strong advocate for families and businesses because of her deep understanding of this district, its people, and its priorities. As an adjunct professor of economics at Columbia College, a small-business owner and a member of the Missouri House Committee for Small Business, she understands the pressures of meeting payrolls and balancing budgets. Baker and her husband, John, a Baptist minister, have three children and are deeply invested in helping their community succeed.
“I am very grateful to have received the EMILY’s List endorsement and the support of so many great women and men from right here Missouri and around the country,” said Baker. “When elected to Congress, I will work on behalf of the people in my district to craft responsible fiscal policy, improve education and help more Americans have access to health care so that they can achieve their American dream.”
With more than 100,000 members across the country, EMILY’s List is one of the largest political action committees in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has raised over $240 million to elect 71 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 13 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. Over the course of 23 years, EMILY’s List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
