EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Mary Jo Kilroy in Ohio's 15th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. - EMILY's List, the nation's largest political action committee and financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of Mary Jo Kilroy in her bid for Ohio's fifteenth congressional district.

"Mary Jo Kilroy is a dedicated, no-nonsense public servant of Ohio," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "She has a history of addressing difficult issues with a realistic, practical vision and with the help of bipartisan and community support. EMILY's List is excited to extend the full support of its membership to Mary Jo Kilroy to ensure the people of Central Ohio finally get the representation they deserve."

Kilroy has spent her life working to improve the lives of the families of Central Ohio. She served on the Columbus School Board for eight years. In 2000, she was elected to the Franklin County Commission, where she serves the majority of the 15th congressional district. As a Franklin County Commissioner, Kilroy leads the effort to pass bipartisan legislation and has earned several awards for her outstanding record.

Kilroy is an effective advocate for change on issues important to voters in Ohio's fifteenth district, including health care, affordable housing, and the cost of higher education. Kilroy nearly defeated Rep. Deborah Pryce in 2006, coming just 1,062 votes short of winning the highly competitive swing district. Now with Rep. Pryce's retirement, she is in an even stronger position to take back this Republican seat.

"I am honored to have earned the support of the thousands of women and men who are members of EMILY's List," said Kilroy. "Central Ohio needs a change in leadership. In Congress, I'll push for affordable health care, an improved economy, and will stand up for middle class families. I look forward to using the experience and knowledge I have gained here at home to make a much needed change in Washington."

With more than 100,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is the largest political action committee in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has raised over $240 million to elect 69 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 13 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. Over the course of 22 years, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
