EMILY's List Announces Endorsement of Suzanne Kosmas in Florida's 24th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. - EMILY's List, the nation's largest political action committee and financial resource for women running for elective office, today announced its endorsement of Suzanne Kosmas for Flordia's twenty-fourth congressional district.

“Suzanne Kosmas is a respected member of the community and will help restore responsibility and integrity to Congress,” said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY’s List. “She has an impressive history of developing common sense solutions and getting consistent results in both the public and private sectors. EMILY’s List is pleased to support Suzanne Kosmas as she works to share her expertise and leadership with her community, the state of Florida, and the U.S. Congress.”

After decades working in both the public and the private sector, Suzanne Kosmas is ready to bring leadership, tenacity and integrity to Congress and to fight for more affordable prescription drugs, accessible health care, a balanced budget, and the preservation of Social Security. She served four terms in the Florida House of Representatives, from 1996-2004, where she successfully fought for children’s issues, including increased money for local schools, and helped improve health care for senior citizens. She is ready to bring back civility and respect to Congressional politics, which she will achieve through her ability to cross party lines and work to achieve better economic security, increased fuel efficiency, and improved environmental protection.

Since 1973, Suzanne Kosmas has lived in New Smyrna Beach where she has been an active community member, serving as co-chair of the United Way Women’s Initiative, vice-president of the Boys and Girls Club of Volusia-Flagler, and on the Habitat for Humanity Southeast Volusia board. Kosmas was the former chairman of the board for the United Way of Volusia-Flagler County. She is the owner of Prestige Properties of New Smyrna Beach, a real estate company, which she founded in 1979. Kosmas is a member of Coronado Methodist Church and is the proud mother of four grown children, Paul, Michael, David and Kristen, and grandmother of eight.

“I am delighted to have received the EMILY’s List endorsement and the support of so many great women and men,” said Suzanne Kosmas. “I am running to bring a moderate, common-sense approach to decision making,” said Kosmas. “I will be an independent and effective voice for working families, children, seniors in the district, and ensure that their interests-not the special interests- are represented in Congress. This is the time for change in Washington, and I will work towards building consensus rather than engaging in lock-step partisan politics."

With more than 100,000 members across the country, EMILY's List is the largest political action committee in the nation. Since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has raised over $240 million to elect 69 pro-choice Democratic women to the U.S. House, 13 to the U.S. Senate, and eight governors. Over the course of 23 years, EMILY's List has helped elect hundreds of pro-choice Democratic women to federal office, state legislatures, state constitutional offices, and other key local offices.
