EMILY's List Members Celebrate Gov. Jennifer Granholm's and Sen. Debbie Stabenow's Victories in Michigan

WASHINGTON, DC – Following is a statement by Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List, on Gov. Jennifer Granholm's and Sen. Debbie Stabenow's re-election wins in Michigan.

"Today, we celebrate the hard-fought reelection of Gov. Jennifer Granholm in Michigan. Granholm has worked relentlessly to create new jobs, diversify Michigan's ailing economy, and protect Michigan's citizens -- and voters demonstrated their faith in her by electing her to a second term. With support from EMILY's List, Granholm overcame the vast wealth and incessant attacks of her opponent, who spent an astonishing $40 million making this one most competitive races of 2006.

We also celebrate the hard-fought reelection of Sen. Debbie Stabenow in Michigan. Sen. Stabenow has a remarkable legislative record – and she has been one of the most influential and energetic Senators, working to protect Michigan families from a difficult economy. With support from EMILY's List, Stabenow overcame a strong united GOP effort to unseat her.

The EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! project was a large reason these two women were victorious – the resources we invested in Michigan helped solidify these wins. EMILY's List members are proud to have been part of these winning campaigns."
