An accomplished business and nonprofit leader
Brynne Kennedy is an accomplished business and nonprofit leader running for Congress to fight for California working families. Brynne grew up in a rural community that struggled in the aftermath of manufacturing plant closures. Brynne was a competitive gymnast who won three state championships and qualified for the US National Junior Elite Training Team before an injury ended her Olympic aspirations. Brynne’s father was a community college teacher, the first in his family to attend college, and a military veteran, and her mother runs a small-town store. Her parents, both cancer survivors, instilled the values of hard work and determination. Brynne graduated from Yale University, and worked on financing infrastructure and housing projects in high-growth communities across the world. Brynne, who speaks Mandarin and French, went on to earn her MBA from the London Business School. Brynne founded a global software company that pioneered new tools to help more businesses compete in a changing economy and to help tens of thousands of workers transition into new jobs and communities. Brynne has emerged as one of America’s leading voices on the effects of technology on the workplace. She is an advocate for policies that enable more workers and businesses to acquire the skills and support to compete in the 21st century, and she has advised lawmakers on policy issues in the face of a changing economy that too often shortchanges rural communities in favor of large coastal cities. Brynne is an author and a former columnist for the Financial Times. She is also the founder of Mobility4All, a charitable initiative that supported refugees displaced by political conflict and environmental disruptions. Brynne lives in Roseville, California.
A champion for California working families
Brynne is running for Congress to expand economic opportunity for all California working families. She founded a company that has created hundreds of good-paying jobs with benefits like paid parental leave and employee stock ownership, and she has what it takes to get our economy working for all. As a business leader, Brynne has what it takes to uplift and transform communities with smart investments, and, as a woman who has faced unequal pay and survived workplace sexual violence, she understands the importance of holding powerful interests accountable to basic standards and values. As a business owner, Brynne knows how skyrocketing health care costs are a drag on job and wage growth. She has also seen firsthand their impact on families when her parents both fought tough battles against cancer. Brynne’s dad was a teacher with great care through his union contract, while her mom faced the uncertainty, high costs, and other barriers that are all too common. Brynne is a fierce advocate for Americans with pre-existing conditions, and she is deeply committed to expanding access to quality, affordable care.
An opportunity to flip a seat from red to blue
Brynne is challenging Republican Congressman Tom McClintock, who has voted for the House Republican health care plan to kick 23 million people off their insurance, repeatedly voted to defund Planned Parenthood, and voted to undermine equal pay protections for women. Brynne has what it takes to hold him accountable for failing the community he was elected to serve. “We are home to the natural jewels of Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park that draw 15 million visitors every year and stimulate billions of dollars in economic activity,” Brynne has said. “We are 40 percent of our state’s watershed, an agricultural hub, and limitless outdoor recreation opportunities. We are thriving main streets, strong neighborhoods, growing small businesses, and open spaces. We are suburbs, small towns, farms, forests, rivers, and mountains. We are young and old. Immigrants and native born. Some of us have been here a short time, and others have been here for generations. This campaign is about uniting all of us.” Our country has never before elected a woman tech founder to Congress, and Brynne has what it takes to be the first with our help. Let’s show Brynne the full support of the EMILY’s List community and help elect this champion for California working families to Congress.
