A dedicated community leader fighting for Illinois working families
Kelly Mazeski is a dedicated community leader running for Congress to continue her lifelong fight for hardworking Illinois families. Kelly’s parents worked hard to give her and her sister the opportunity to go to college, and she was the first in her family to graduate. She began her career as a chemist, and went on to work as a financial advisor for a major investment firm. Kelly has an outstanding eighteen-year record of serving in local government as a village trustee, a zoning board member, and currently as plan commissioner for her community. A longtime champion for sustainability, she currently serves on the board of the Illinois Environmental Council after being elected in 2014. Kelly and her husband, a small business owner, are the proud parents of two grown children who attended local public schools. They live in Barrington Hills and have lived in the Barrington area for more than 25 years with their two rescue dogs. Kelly’s recovery from breast cancer several years ago makes her a powerful advocate for the Illinois working families whose access to health care could be in jeopardy. Her struggle to maintain insurance coverage after receiving her diagnosis as well as her experience paying for the coverage her daughter, who has a rare pre-existing condition, inspired her fight back to health and her run for this must-win House seat.
A champion for economic opportunity, health care, and our environment
Kelly is fighting to expand economic opportunity for all hardworking Illinois families. When elected, she will work tirelessly to help create good paying jobs and to ensure that all students have access to the educational opportunities they need to thrive in tomorrow’s economy. As a breast cancer survivor who struggled with our health care system — even being notified her insurance company was going to drop coverage of her at one point — Kelly knows firsthand how a diagnosis can threaten a family’s economic security. When elected, she will fight to expand access to affordable health care for all. Kelly is a pro-choice champion and a staunch defender of Planned Parenthood, and when elected she will fight tirelessly for every woman’s right to access reproductive health care services. She is a lifelong advocate for environmental protection and education, and served as energy and environment outreach coordinator for President Obama’s campaign in 2007 and 2008. Kelly has led nature classes and wildlife walks for children both on restored prairies and in Chicago, and when elected, she will help build a sustainable future for future generations of Illinoisans.
A prime opportunity to flip a seat from red to blue
Kelly is challenging six-term incumbent Republican Congressman Peter Roskam, an extremist running for re-election in spite of his record that hurts the hardworking families he was elected to serve—including his votes to take away 650,000 Illinoisans’ health care. Our path to taking back the House runs straight through this district, where Hillary Clinton outperformed Donald Trump by seven points in 2016. Kelly is running a strong campaign, and she has what it takes to win in 2018. The GOP relies on Roskam to advance their dangerous agenda, and deep-pocketed special interests will do everything they can to hold onto this seat—and control of the House. Let’s show Kelly the full support of the EMILY’s List community and help flip this seat and send this champion for hardworking Illinois families to Congress.
