A first-generation American, and experienced attorney and advocate
Lulu Seikaly is a proud first-generation American running for Congress to fight for north Texas working families. Lulu is the daughter of a pediatric specialist and a registered nurse who fled civil war in their native Lebanon. Raised in north Texas, Lulu wants to ensure that every American has the opportunity to succeed just like her family did. Lulu attended Southern Methodist University and went on to earn her law degree from South Texas College of Law, graduating with honors. Lulu specializes in employment law and is recognized as a rising star in her field. As an attorney working with cities, Lulu has fought back against discrimination and harassment and worked to hold violent police officers accountable. Lulu lives in Plano, Texas, the community where her husband, Daniel, grew up, and she is driven by a commitment to give back to her community. She enjoys volunteering in the community, traveling, and mentoring law students and preparing them for mock trial tournaments around the country. When elected, Lulu will give north Texas families a new voice in Congress.
A champion for North Texas working families
Lulu is running for Congress to expand economic opportunity for all. “We have a long way to go before we have an economy that works for everyone and a country where everyone counts,” she has said, and she will work tirelessly for all families to have a fair shot. Lulu’s parents fled civil war and found the opportunity to succeed in north Texas, and she is committed to continuing the work of making our democracy and our economy stronger and more inclusive to fulfill the American promise. “The immigrant story is essential to the American story — and core to my own personal story,” Lulu has said. “We are a nation of people from all over the world with different histories, languages, beliefs, cultures, and stories — we built the strongest democracy and economy in the world as a result of it, not in spite of it.” Lulu is dedicated to expanding access to affordable, quality health care for all. “We can be proud of the progress we’ve made in expanding health care access to millions of families through the Affordable Care Act, while acknowledging that our healthcare system is still fundamentally broken,” she has said. As the daughter of a doctor and a nurse, Lulu knows we should be making decisions based on the best available science and the judgment of public health experts as our country faces the unprecedented crisis of COVID-19.
An opportunity to flip a House seat from red to blue
Lulu is challenging freshman Republican Congressman Van Taylor, a vulnerable freshman incumbent whose record of failure has hurt the working families he was elected to serve. This seat has been Republican-controlled for years, but the district has been growing increasingly diverse in recent years. This district is home to many first-generation Americans like Lulu, and she stepped up to run for the first time when women and people of color made historic gains during the 2018 midterm elections which inspired her to run for office herself. We have the opportunity to help Lulu flip this seat and strengthen our House majority. Taylor’s deep-pocketed special interest allies will do everything they can to keep this seat, but Lulu has what it takes to turn this seat blue with our help. Texas’ 3rd Congressional District has never before elected a woman to the House, but she is poised to make history as the first. Let’s show Lulu the full support of the EMILY’s List community and help elect this champion for north Texas working families to Congress.
