A proven leader and dedicated public servant
Margaret Good is a proven leader and dedicated public servant running for Congress to fight for Florida working families. Margaret learned the value of service from her mother, a nurse, and her father, an Episcopal priest whose ministry took the family to small towns all across the south. After college, she put her values in action at the United Way where she focused on bringing business leaders, local governments, schools, and faith organizations together to help families achieve financial stability and gain access to health care and early childhood education programs. She went on to work at the Florida Agricultural Center and Horse Park, a vital economic development project linking commercial, environmental, and agricultural interests. To continue her career of service, Margaret went on to the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where she was editor of the Florida Law Review and graduated with honors. She and her husband and her dog moved to Sarasota to build a life together, and she has worked with businesses, individuals, and government entities as an advocate. In 2018, she was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in a highly competitive special election, and was reelected later that year and serves as deputy minority leader. Margaret quickly earned a reputation as a champion for working families, and EMILY’s List recognized her leadership by naming her a 2019 Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award nominee.
A champion for Florida working families
Margaret is running for Congress to expand economic opportunity for hardworking Florida families. She is dedicated to tackling the toughest problems facing the people and communities she serves. Moments after Margaret was sworn into office, 17 Floridians lost their lives in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting. She immediately began advocating for commonsense solutions to end gun violence and introduced legislation to require background checks. She is committed to reducing health care costs, investing in public schools and university systems, and protecting Florida’s unique, fragile environment for generations of Floridians and visitors to come.
An opportunity to flip a Sunshine State seat from red to blue
Margaret is challenging Republican Congressman Vern Buchanan, a vulnerable incumbent whose record of failure has hurt the working families he was elected to serve. In 2020, we have the opportunity to help Margaret flip this seat and strengthen our House majority. Buchanan and his deep-pocketed special interest allies will do everything they can to keep this seat, but Margaret is working tirelessly to build a formidable grassroots campaign, and she has what it takes to turn this seat blue with our help. Let’s show Margaret the full support of the EMILY’s List community and help elect this champion for Florida working families to Congress.
