A champion for Illinois working families
Sol Flores is an experienced community leader running for Congress to continue her lifelong fight for hardworking Illinois families. Sol is a lifelong Chicagoan whose family moved from Puerto Rico in the 1960’s seeking economic opportunity. When her father passed away early in her life, Sol was raised by her single mother, with the help of a close-knit extended family. Her mother taught her that anything was possible through hard work as well as the importance of speaking up and helping others. Sol is the founding executive director of La Casa Norte, a nonprofit serving children, youth and families experiencing homelessness in her community. Under her leadership, La Casa Norte has grown from an organization with two employees to an 80-employee, multi-million dollar organization changing the lives of homeless families, single parents, victims of domestic violence, and abandoned youth. Sol was honored as a “Champion of Change” by the Obama Administration for her innovative and tireless work. She is a proud resident of Chicago running to be the voice of the working families she has devoted her life to serving.
An experienced leader fighting to expand economic opportunity
Sol is dedicated to expanding economic opportunity and creating good paying jobs for all hardworking Illinoisans. When elected, she will continue her life’s work of connecting Illinoisans with the resources they need to achieve economic security — increasing access to educational opportunities, affordable housing, and quality health care to transform lives and communities. Sol began her career as a business consultant, and she has the experience and leadership it takes to help businesses, government, and community organizations collaborate to create economic growth that uplifts all Illinoisans. She is a pro-choice champion and a powerful advocate for expanding access to health care, and when elected, she will fight back against Republicans’ desperate attempts to undo the progress we’ve worked so hard to make.
A chance to make history
Sol is running for an open seat currently held by retiring incumbent Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez. This is a heavily Democratic district, and Sol faces a crowded primary as she fights to secure the nomination. This dedicated champion for Illinois working families is running a strong grassroots campaign, and she has what it takes to win. Illinois is home to more than one million Latinas, but the state has never elected a Latina to Congress. Sol is poised to be the first, and she’s fighting tirelessly for the Illinoisans whose voices aren’t being heard in Washington. Let’s show her our full support and give Chicagoans and all Illinois Latinas a new voice in the halls of power.
