A proven leader fighting for Montanans
Whitney Williams is an experienced leader running for governor of Montana to expand economic opportunity for all, protect public lands, and bring down health care costs. Whitney is founder and CEO of a business that helps Fortune 500 companies, charities, and citizens tackle complex problems like the ones Montana working families face. A proud graduate of the University of Montana, she has served as an aide to Missoula’s Democratic legislative delegation, an archivist for the Women’s Protective Union in Butte, and a nonprofit leader before starting her successful company nearly twenty years ago. Whitney served on the Board of Trustees for the Glacier National Park Fund, the Board of Directors for Montana Conservation Voters, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She is a sixth-generation Montanan whose family has a strong tradition of leadership and public service; her father was Montana’s longest serving congressman and her mother was Montana’s first woman Senate majority leader. “My parents taught us that being a Montanan was a privilege, but that it’s up to every generation to fight for it,” Whitney has said. “When we stand together, the expectations don’t stand a chance.”
A champion for Montana working families
“Today, we need to fight for an economy that brings opportunity to all parts of our state, fight to protect public lands from private developers, and to bring down the cost of health insurance and prescription drugs,” Whitney has said. A seasoned executive, she has managed multi-million dollar budgets, helped victims of natural disasters pick up and start again, opened new markets for farmers struggling to make ends meet, brought people together to tackle the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women, helped law enforcement protect kids from sex trafficking, and fought for students’ access to quality education. As a business leader, Whitney has what it takes to expand economic opportunity for all Montanans. “Creating small businesses is one of the most rewarding and difficult things a person can do,” Whitney has said. “It really is the backbone of America.” As governor, Whitney will lead Montana forward.
An opportunity to win the governorship of a critical swing state
Whitney is running a strong grassroots campaign for the open governorship currently held by term-limited Democratic Governor Steve Bullock. She is taking on a Republican field that includes Congressman Greg Gianforte, a dangerous extremist whose agenda hurts the hardworking Montanans he was elected to serve. Whitney has what it takes to hold this critical swing state governorship — and to serve as another powerful example of the impact women in executive leadership positions can make. Let’s show her the full support of the EMILY’s List community and help this champion for Montana working families win.
