10/15 in Chicago: EMILY's List Hosts Fundraiser with National and Illinois Candidates

CHICAGO, IL – On Monday, October 15, EMILY's List will hold a luncheon fundraiser in Chicago featuring EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock; Sen. Tina Smith (MN-SEN); IL-LG candidate Juliana Stratton; and U.S. House candidates Abby Finkenauer (IA-01), Betsy Dirksen Londrigan (IL-13), and Lauren Underwood (IL-14).

This event is open to credentialed members of the media. To RSVP and for additional logistical details, please email press@emilyslist.org.

Sen. Tina Smith (MN-SEN): Tina Smith has dedicated her career to serving the people of Minnesota. Since being elected lieutenant governor in 2014, Tina has championed policies to support job growth and create access to quality affordable health care. Throughout her time in office, she continued to defend a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her reproductive health care. Her success in this swing state is crucial to protecting the hardworking Minnesotans she represents against the Republicans’ regressive agenda.

Juliana Stratton (IL-LG): Representative Juliana Stratton is a proven champion for working families and a clear example of the strong leadership it takes to create long-lasting change for Illinois communities. Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker could not have made a stronger choice in naming her as his running mate. Together they will unseat a deeply unpopular Republican administration and usher in the progress Illinois families have been waiting for.

Abby Finkenauer (IA-01): A lifelong Iowan, Abby Finkenauer has dedicated her career to serving her state. After becoming the third-youngest woman to serve in a state legislature, she established herself as a champion for working families. Abby is running to flip vulnerable incumbent Republican Congressman Rod Blum’s seat from red to blue.

Betsy Dirksen Londrigan (IL-13): Betsy Dirksen Londrigan is an experienced progressive and nonprofit leader. She worked as a self-employed entrepreneur while raising her three children and is a powerful advocate for small businesses. Betsy is fighting tirelessly to expand access to health care and is running against Republican Rodney Davis.

Lauren Underwood (IL-14): Lauren Underwood is a registered nurse with hands-on experience in our health care system and an experienced leader who has dedicated her career to expanding all Americans’ access to quality, affordable care. A champion for the people of her district, she is the advocate that Illinois’ 14th District deserves. She is running against Republican incumbent Congressman Randy Hultgren.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
