Allan Fung Flaunts Support from Anti-Choice Voters, Cannot Hide His Own Anti-Choice Views

Washington, D.C.  —  It has been a week since Mayor Allan Fung released a partial poll heralding his support from Trump voters and “right-to-life” voters, and he still has not come clean on his anti-choice positions. Christina Reynolds, EMILY's List vice president of communications, released the following statement in response:

“With access to reproductive health care under existential threat, Allan Fung can't get away with remaining silent on legislation that protects women's health care access while also heralding his support from anti-choice voters. Fung should have the courage to tell women to their faces that he intends to be an anti-choice governor. Rhode Islanders need to know that Gina Raimondo is the candidate who will continue to defend the right of women and families to make their own health care choices.”

Mayor Allan Fung is a member of the anti-choice Thomas More society and was the recipient of the Rhode Island Right to Life Committee's endorsement in 2014. He also has a record of advocating for limits on access to reproductive health care options.

Governor Gina Raimondo has been endorsed by EMILY's List and Planned Parenthood. Just last week, she signed three impactful women's health care bills into law. Raimondo is also a leader on access to health care and is calling on the state legislature to pass the Reproductive Health Care Act to codify Roe v. Wade in state law.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
