EMILY's List Condemns Mike Pence's Anti-Choice Remarks

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Mike Pence said that he will do all he can do to end abortion “in our time.” In response, Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, released the following statement:

“Mike Pence's comments tonight were an outrageous, full-throated attack on women's rights from our nation's second in command. But his backward views aren't constrained to the vice president's office – he's parrotting the goals of Republicans everywhere. The GOP does not believe women should have control over their own bodies, and they will happily chip away at our rights and our access to reproductive health care until we have neither.”
“But if Republicans weren't already scared of the wave of pro-choice women coming out to take action, run for office, and stop them, then they should be. Because from coast to coast, in small towns and the United States Senate, women won't rest until their voices are heard in the halls of power. We will not let them take us back – not now, not ever.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
