EMILYs List Congratulates Katie Hill on Her Victory in California’s 25th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated EMILYs List candidate Katie Hill on being elected to represent California’s 25th Congressional District in the U.S. House. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“As a nonprofit executive working on the issue of homelessness, Katie Hill’s perseverance and commitment to making change in her community is undeniable. In Congress, she will be a progressive champion for the women and working families of California, working to increase the availability of affordable housing and access to quality health care. With her victory, Katie makes history as the first openly LGBTQ woman to represent California and the first woman to represent California’s 25th District. EMILYs List is proud to congratulate Katie on a hard-earned victory in flipping this seat from red to blue.”

Women Vote, EMILY's List's independent expenditure arm, spent $300,000 in the primary on a robust mail program letting voters know that Katie Hill will fight for them in Congress. Women Vote also contributed $50,000 to House Majority PAC’s independent expenditure effort in the general election.

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s Listhas launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
