EMILYs List Congratulates Kyrsten Sinema on Her Victory for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated EMILYs List candidate Kyrsten Sinema on being elected to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Over a year of hard work and talking to Arizonans paid off, and EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate Kyrsten Sinema on her incredible victory. Throughout her time in Congress, she has been a bipartisan leader, working across party lines to protect Arizonans when it comes to tackling inefficiency in government, expanding public education and job opportunities, and pushing back against attempts to gut Social Security and Medicare. In the U.S. Senate, she will continue being the fighter that Arizona’s working families deserve. Kyrsten makes history with her victory, as she becomes the first woman to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate and the first openly bisexual senator.”

Women Vote, EMILY's List's independent expenditure arm, invested $1.7 million in an independent expenditure effort, including bilingual TV program, radio and contributions to the statewide get out the vote and digital campaigns.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
