EMILYs List Congratulates Lisa Herbold and Debora Juarez on Their Re-Election to the Seattle City Council

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated Councilmembers Lisa Herbold (District 1) and Debora Juarez (District 5) on their re-election to the Seattle City Council. EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock released the following statement:

With their long records championing policies that ensure all residents have a fair shot at success, we know Seattle has a strong and bright future ahead. EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate Councilmembers Herbold and Juarez on their victories.”

Lisa Herbold was elected to the Seattle City Council in 2015. A longtime Seattle resident, Lisa has a deep understanding of the challenges facing working families in her community and has been a strong advocate for improving public life for all residents. Since taking office, she has been an innovative problem solver for tough public policy issues including access to affordable housing, paid sick leave, government accountability, and criminal justice reform. Prior to her election, Councilmember Herbold worked as a legislative aide in City Hall and was an outspoken community advocate who served on several local boards including the Young Adult Independent Living Project, Homestead Community Land Trust, and the Tenants Union.

Debora Juarez was elected to the Seattle City Council in 2015 when she became the first Native American person elected to the Council. Since taking office, she has led the effort to secure funding for a new Lake City Community Center, worked to improve accessibility throughout District 5. She has been a longtime outspoken advocate for Washington’s  Native American population. Prior to joining the City Council, she worked as a public defender for indigent communities, served as a King County Superior Court Judge, as Executive Director of the Governor's Office of Indian Affairs, and created a premier Tribal Practice Group at one of the Pacific Northwest’s top law firms. She is a member of the Blackfeet Nation and the daughter to a Native American mother and a first-generation Mexican-American father.
