EMILYs List Congratulates Lizzie Pannill Fletcher on Her Victory in Texas’ 7th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated EMILYs List Candidate Lizzie Pannill Fletcher on being elected to represent Texas’ 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Lizzie Pannill Fletcher’s victory tonight in a district that has been represented by the GOP since 1966 is historic. Throughout her career, Lizzie has been an ally for her community and as an attorney, she fought for Houstonians of diverse backgrounds to ensure they had a voice. Families in the 7th District will finally have a representative standing up and fighting for them in Congress. Lizzie ousted a nine-term Republican extremist and is the first woman to represent Texas’ 7th District. EMILYs List stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Lizzie in her primary and is excited to congratulate Lizzie on her hard-earned victory to flip this seat.”

Women Vote, EMILY's List's independent expenditure arm, invested nearly $260,000 in the primary election on a digital and mail campaign. In the general election, Women Vote spent more than $2,200,000 on TV and digital to inform Texas voters that John Culberson won’t fight to protect their health care.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
