EMILYs List Endorses 16 Women Leaders for the Maine State Legislature and Local Public Offices

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed 16 women leaders for the Maine state Legislature and local public offices. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to endorse these pro-choice Democratic women who have fought tirelessly throughout their careers for policies that benefit every family. Paul LePage, along with Republicans in the Legislature, have attempted to block access to lifesaving health care coverage, roll back Maine’s minimum wage, and abandon families who need our help the most. Maine women and families deserve champions fighting for them and EMILYs List is proud to endorse candidates who will do just that.”

EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of candidates:

Natasha Irving (District Attorney, District 6)
DA Maeghan Maloney (District Attorney, District 4)
Senator Shenna Bellows (SD-14)
Doretta Colburn (HD-71)
Diane Denk (HD-09)
Vicki Doudera (HD-94)
Representative Jessica Fay (HD-66)
Laura Fortman (SD-13)
Eryn Gilchrist (HD-57)
Representative Erin Herbig (SD-11)
Kellie Julia (SD-15)
Representative Heather Sanborn (SD-28)
Linda Sanborn (SD-30)
Bev Uhlenhake (SD-08)
Senator Eloise Vitelli (SD-23)
Representative Charlotte Warren (HD-84)

In addition to endorsing Attorney General Janet Mills for governor, EMILYs List also previously endorsed two candidates for the Maine state Legislature — Jan Collins (SD-17) and Karen Kusiak (SD-16). Mills, Kusiak, and Collins all advanced through their primaries in June.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
