EMILYs List Endorses Dr. Eliz Markowitz in Texas House District 28 Special Election

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Dr. Eliz Markowitz in the special election for Texas House District 28. Geri Prado, vice president of state & local campaigns at EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“EMILY's List is proud to endorse Dr. Eliz Markowitz for Texas House District 28. As a trainer for educators across the country, Eliz has spent her career fighting for all students' access to quality education and proven her commitment to protecting Texas' most vulnerable children both inside and outside their schools. She is a true progressive fighter and EMILY's List is confident Eliz has what it takes to represent the people of House District 28.”

Eliz Markowitz is a passionate community advocate and educator with a clear plan to make Texas a more affordable, equitable and safer place to live, work and go to school. A native Texan, Eliz knows firsthand the issues facing her community and has worked to address them. Once elected, her top priorities are ensuring all Texans can receive a good education regardless of their background and increasing the support teachers and staff receive at their schools. Eliz is also committed to improving access to the ballot box, expanding access to affordable health care, and passing commonsense gun safety laws. She received her bachelor’s degree from Trinity University, two master’s degrees from UT San Antonio, and a doctorate from the University of Houston.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 48,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
