WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Gretchen Driskell for Congress in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“What is so special about Gretchen Driskell is that when she sees something that needs fixing, she identifies a solution and takes action. That is one reason EMILY's List has so enthusiastically supported her throughout her career in public service. As city councilor, mayor of Saline, and member of the Michigan House of Representatives, Gretchen has devoted herself to growing the local economy, supporting public education, empowering small businesses, and improving infrastructure in her district. She would continue to fight for the families in her community if elected to Congress.

“In contrast, Tim Walberg has continued to stand for ripping health care away from women and families and giving the ultra-rich huge tax breaks. Michiganders deserve better, which is why EMILY's List is endorsing Gretchen Driskell in this critical race.”

Gretchen’s experience as a businesswoman and public servant makes her a powerful advocate for policies that will expand economic opportunity and help create good paying jobs. She will work tirelessly to strengthen Michigan schools and increase access to job training programs that create economic opportunity for all. The challenges Michigan working families face are deeply personal for Gretchen, who raised her three children as a single mom who worked multiple jobs and struggled to make ends meet. She will fight tirelessly to increase access to affordable health care — and she will fight back against the dangerous extremists trying to take it away.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
