EMILY’s List Endorses Kathy Manning in North Carolina's 13th District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Kathy Manning for Congress in North Carolina's 13th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:

"Simply put, Kathy Manning is a woman who knows how to get things done. As an attorney, small business owner, and community leader, she has consistently fought for progress and achieved results for the families of Greensboro. From being the driving force behind a new performing arts center to helping get families back on their feet after the financial crisis to helping spur economic growth in her community, Kathy has taken on tough challenges and improved the lives of those around her. It's time that she bring her considerable talents to Congress.

"Kathy's record stands in stark contrast to that of her opponent. Ted Budd has moved in lockstep with Paul Ryan and congressional Republicans, voting to rip health care away from millions of people, giving big corporations massive tax breaks paid for by middle-class families, and voting to deny disaster relief funding. Budd is completely out of touch with the working families of the 13th District. It's time for the voters to fire Budd and elect a true champion like Kathy in his place. EMILY's List is proud to support her candidacy."

Kathy moved to Greensboro after graduating from law school more than thirty years ago, and she and her husband have raised their three children in the vibrant community they proudly call home. A former immigration attorney, she left the major law firm where she had been a partner for 16 years to start her own practice. Kathy has worked tirelessly to serve others, and as the first woman to lead one of the largest charitable organizations in the world, The Jewish Federations of North America, she helped those who lost their jobs during the Great Recession access food, health care, mortgage assistance, and job retraining. A powerful advocate for North Carolinians, she has worked to provide school readiness programs for vulnerable children, to help students in her community access higher education, and to help seniors live with dignity.

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
