EMILYs List Endorses Madeleine Dean in Pennsylvania's 4th District
Women Vote Launches Program Educating Pennsylvania Voters on Madeleine Dean's Record

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Madeleine Dean for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 4th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Madeleine Dean is an experienced leader who will fight for the women and families of Montgomery County in Congress. Since her election to the state House six years ago, Madeleine has been a champion for progressive policies including access to health care, funding for public education, combating gun violence and more. She serves on the Pennsylvania Commission for Women and advises the governor on policies that affect women, ranging from expanding economic opportunities to supporting mentorship programs – essential work in a state where the legislature is dominated by male lawmakers.

“Madeleine is running for a redistricted open seat in a tough primary against former Congressman Joe Hoeffel. In a time when women are stepping up and making their voices heard across the country, the people of the new 4th District are ready for new leadership who will step up and fight for them. Madeleine is a champion for working families and has the full support of the EMILYs List community to fight for Pennsylvanians in Congress.”

As one of seven children in a politically engaged family, Madeleine Dean has been interested in public service and advocacy from a young age. She received her undergraduate degree from La Salle University and her law degree from Widener University, eventually practicing law and serving as executive director of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers. Madeleine served as an assistant professor at La Salle University for over a decade and then as a local township commissioner, writing as a contributor to local daily newspapers along the way. She was elected to be a state representative in 2012 and has served in Harrisburg since then. Madeleine lives in Jenkintown, Abington Township with her husband and has three grown sons and one granddaughter.

EMILYs List’s voter mobilization and education project, Women Vote, is also announcing a direct mail program to educate voters of Pennsylvania’s 4th Congressional District about state Representative Madeleine Dean. The direct mail will introduce voters to Madeleine and educate them on her commitment to expand access to healthcare, common sense gun laws, and protecting Planned Parenthood.

The seven-piece mail plan targets any voter who voted in at least two of six Democratic primaries (’17, ’16, ’14, ’13, ’12, ’10), any Democrat who registered after 3/25/16 and has since voted in a General Election, and any new Democratic registrants since Election Day 2016. The mail will be sent to a universe of 84,683 voters in 61,795 households and will drop on the following dates: 4/25, 4/27, 4/30, 5/2, 5/4, 5/7, and 5/9.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
