WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today it was announced that the Senate would not be voting on the Graham-Cassidy-Heller bill. Once again, Republicans failed to unilaterally repeal the Affordable Care Act. In response, Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, released the following statement:
"Americans can breathe a sigh of relief. Donald Trump and the Republican Party's partisan efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and strip millions of Americans of their health care have failed, again. So-called leaders like Senators Dean Heller and Jeff Flake — who would rather play party politics than help thousands of Nevadans and Arizonans — will be held accountable for their betrayal in 2018."
"While Republicans repeatedly attempted to dismantle the health care system for millions, Democrats stood united in defense of the American people. Democrats fought to help — rather than hurt — Americans with pre-existing conditions, Planned Parenthood patients, older and low-income Americans, and Medicaid recipients. With 2018 just around the corner, the voters' choice is increasingly clear. Democrats will fight to protect and save American lives. Republicans will try to rubber-stamp whatever agenda this out-of-control president puts in front of them."
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
