EMILY's List Recognizes International Day of Families

WASHINGTON, DC — In honor of International Day of Families, Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, released the following statement:

“Today on International Day of Families, we reflect on the issues that limit opportunities for families across the United States and the world. From health care to education, from housing to food access, our nation’s families deserve elected officials who will create policies that support and protect them — not strip away their basic social and economic rights.

“Donald Trump and the GOP have made it clear that family doesn't come first, money does. Since day one, their mission has been to strip away health care from millions of women and children, separate children from their families at the border, and make it harder for struggling Americans to get fair and affordable housing. When women have a voice in the halls of power, better policies are put in place — that’s why EMILYs List will continue to fight to elect pro-choice Democratic women who will put families first and expand economic opportunity for all. With primary season in full swing, Republicans know their days are numbered.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
