EMILY’s List Statement on Healthy Families Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, issued a statement on the Healthy Families Act, which was introduced today by Representative Rosa DeLauro and Senator Patty Murray. The Healthy Families Act guarantees most workers the right to earn up to seven paid sick days to be used for routine health needs and medical appointments, to care for family members who are ill or in need of care, and for survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault to seek related services.
“The EMILY’s List community is proud of Representative Rosa DeLauro and Senator Patty Murray’s leadership in introducing the Healthy Families Act to promote the family-friendly workplace policies that working families and our economy need,” said EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock. “Paid sick days help women and families have a fair shot by guaranteeing workers the right to take care of their health needs – including care for survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault. While Republicans in Congress continue their relentless attempts to advance their extreme agenda, Democratic women leaders continue to champion the issues that matter most to women and families.”
EMILY’s List has raised over $400 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates since its founding in 1985, making it the nation’s largest resource for women in politics and one of the most successful political action committees in the country. Throughout its 30 year history, the organization has recruited and trained over 9,000 women to run, worked to elect 110 pro-choice Democratic women to the House, 19 to the Senate, 11 governors, and over 700 women to state and local office. EMILY’s List has also helped elect every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic Congresswoman currently serving.
