EMILY’s List Statement Recognizing National Work and Family Month

October 1, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock released the following statement recognizing National Work and Family Month:
“National Work and Family Month reminds us of the millions of Americans – particularly women – who struggle every day to balance their responsibilities at work and at home. Unfortunately, Republicans led by Donald Trump and his Cabinet of billionaires are more interested in catering to the demands of CEOs and special interests than the needs of hardworking Americans.”
“Now more than ever, working families need dedicated advocates in the halls of power – leaders like Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Rosa DeLauro who are fighting to guarantee paid family leave for all Americans. Others, like Sen. Patty Murray, are leading the charge to raise the federal minimum wage and ensure every worker has a livable income.”
“This month and every month, EMILY’s List is committed to electing more progressive women who will continue this fight for working women and their families.”
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
