Women Vote Announces Six-Figure Television Program in Texas’ 21st Congressional District Race

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Women Vote, the independent expenditure arm of EMILYs List, unveiled a $375,000 two-week television program in the toss up race between Wendy Davis and Congressman Chip Roy. The ad, which begins airing tomorrow, calls out Congressman Roy’s record of prioritizing the interests of big pharmaceutical companies over the interests of Texans.

“By taking thousands of dollars from drug company lobbyists, Congressman Chip Roy has proven that his allegiance can and always will be sold to the highest bidder,” said Melissa Williams, vice president of independent expenditures at EMILYs List. “It is alarmingly clear that Chip Roy has forgotten that he was elected to serve the interests of Texas’ 21st Congressional District, not the interests of whoever can sign the biggest check. Access to affordable health care is on the chopping block this November, and Chip Roy can’t be trusted to fight for coverage for hardworking Texans.”

Script:
After taking thousands from drug company lobbyists,
It’s not surprising Chip Roy defends pharmaceutical profits.
[Chip Roy clip] “They made a lot of money…And I’m really glad they did.”
Or that he opposed lower drug costs.
[Chip Roy clip] “I hope they make a lot more.”
It’s just surprising how much he cares about their profit.
[Chip Roy clip] “I mean it is just offensive!… I hope you make a lot of money.”
Take a chill pill, Congressman… at least you can afford it.
